Watch out Los Angeles, there's a new bad boy in town. Summer Jenkins. That’s me, a small town girl stuck in Quincy, Georgia. Book Cover
Equal parts Dexter and 50 Shades, this is the eagerly awaited new novel from A. R. Torre, author of the award winning erotic thriller, The Girl in 6E.
The rules are the same. I can’t open the door. I can’t leave. I can’t kill anyone.
The only difference is, I don’t set the rules anymore. Guards in grey uniforms do. It is everything I never wanted and everything I always deserved. I write to you now, from a prison cell. My home for the next twenty to thirty years.
That’s the going term for murder.

 *** Spoiler Free ***
“Where were you last night, Ms. Madden?” I brought my eyes up from the water bottle and into the woman’s eyes. “I was here. In my apartment.” The woman’s eyes darted, from left to right, like a pong paddle. “All night?” “Yes.” “Can anyone verify that?” When she spoke, her eyebrows pinched together in a sharp V of distrust. I watched their narrow exclamations and wondered what they have on me. Anything? Was this a fishing expedition or a sharpening of the nails that would seal my coffin? “Umm… yes. My next-door neighbor. Simon.” I tried to push into last night’s vault, but found nothing. Strange. “He was with you?” I felt the upward curl of my lip. “No. But he locked me into the apartment. From nine till sometime this morning.” That surprised them. I felt the shift of air, the rigid tilt of the woman as she fought against turning her head to the man. He leaned in a little and spoke, “I don’t understand.” I sighed, an action that bought me a moment to deliberate the wisdom of information sharing. “Simon lives a few doors down. He locks my door at night. So he can verify that he locked me inside last night, and I was here all night until he unlocked me.” “Your door locks from the outside?” EyelinerCop found this very interesting. I watched the tip of her pen, the increased tremor of it as it scratched against the page of her notebook. “Yes.” I lifted my eyes from the pen. “What evidence do you have against me?” Her mouth widened into a grin, a stretch of raw lips that looked painful. I didn’t like that grin, that tell that I’d just stepped into a pile of shit. “Why, Ms. Madden, what an interesting question. An innocent person would be more interested in finding out what crime was committed.” “Who said I was an innocent person?” The response slipped out, snarky and unnecessary. I’d wanted to shut the cop up, to wipe that smug grin off her face. The question was much more passive than what I wanted to do. To spring across the table and claw at her throat. Yank at her belt and palm her service revolver. Celebrate the gun’s weight in my hand in the moment before I pointed the gun at her temple and pulled the trigger. Take that, bulletproof vest. Compared to that scenario, my egotistic response was tame. Tame and stupid. The pair of detectives all but high-fived each other with their eye contact. I settled back in my chair and waited. Counted to ten and swore to behave. The woman composed herself and spoke. “What are you guilty of, Ms. Madden?” I wondered why she was in charge of this interaction. If it was her rank or if it was because they thought I’d associate with a woman more. Thought I would buddy up and confess away, all because a penis didn’t hang between her legs. I tapped my fingers against the arm of the chair. “I’d like you both to leave now. Unless you have something to charge me with.” They had to have something. Surely they didn’t show up at my apartment on a whim. I must have slipped up somewhere, forgotten something. Left a gaping hole big enough for them to stick an arrest warrant through. The man spoke. “Let’s get back to the neighbor. You said he locks you inside? Why would you let him do that?” This was wrong, bad. I shouldn’t be here, shouldn’t be talking to them. I had asked them to leave, didn’t that mean they had to? I took a sip of my water and looked away from the man, making accidental eye contact with the woman. She leaned forward and pointed, her finger one long arrow of invasion. “What happened to your nose, Ms. Madden?” “My nose?” I reached up and touched it. Felt the caked blood, the split across my bridge. I fought the urge to follow suit with my second hand to fully explore the damage. Focused on my pain and suddenly realized how much it throbbed. “It looks broken.” She looked concerned, but she wasn’t. She was giddy, would probably have reached out and gripped my nose herself if she could have. It looks broken. It felt broken. I pushed on the tip and got lightheaded. Pulled my hand away before I fainted. I stared at a strand of the woman’s hair that had escaped her ponytail. Focused on it until the spots cleared from my vision. “Ms. Madden?” the man prodded. “What?” “What happened to your nose?” Good question. I looked away from the strand of hair and into the man’s eyes. “I’m not sure.” “You forgot?” The seed of unease was growing in my stomach. Why was I talking to them? Why were they here? Why was I offering information when I wasn’t getting any? I stood up and watched for a reaction. A reach for a paper, for evidence to wave in my face, but they did nothing, just stayed in place and watched me. “I’d like to be alone.” I walked to the door and waited, the pair slow in their stand, step, then pass through the open door. I was almost free, about to shut it, when the woman’s hand settled on my arm, a firm and hard grip that tightened against the sleeve of my Marilyn Monroe sweatshirt. I turned, raising my brows at her in question. “Why did you kill him?” the cop whispered, her eyes glued on me. I didn’t answer her. I held her eye contact while I reached down and pulled back on her index finger until she released my arm. Then I dropped my hand, stepped back, and shut the door, the slam of the steel against the frame loud and unfamiliar. I didn’t not answer to be smart or mysterious. The main reason I didn’t answer was because I wasn’t sure how to answer. I wasn’t sure which death she was asking about. To be honest, I was starting to lose track.

EXCERPT: When the door to the production trailer burst open, it brought with it a wave of heat and beauty. Cole looked up from the storyboards and locked eyes with Summer, who blew across the room at him like a tornado on tilt. “There’s no love story between Ida and Royce.” Summer snapped, throwing down the script, pages fluttering down between them. In the small trailer, conversations stalled and he could feel the attention turn their way. “I’ve read the book. Three times!” It was good to know that someone had read the damn book. Cole glanced down at her temper tantrum of a mess and back up, raising his eyebrows mildly. “It’s a movie,” he said, turning back to the storyboards. “The writers are adding some excitement. It’s normal. You’d know that if you were in this business.” The dig was unnecessary but he couldn’t help it. This woman turned him into the devil. “I read the first script. The one you sent over with my contract. Ida and Royce hated each other. Why would Royce…” she snatched up a page from the ground and read out a line. “pushes Ida against the file cabinet and kisses her passionately.” She balled up the page and threw it down to the ground and he could see, in her eyes, the panic. Panic. An unexpected reaction. “We’ll use that,” Don made the dangerous move of stepping in, putting a soft hand on her shoulder. “You don’t understand. The passion from their hatred will make it hotter.” “No.” Summer said, her face hard, her eyes on Cole. “It doesn’t make it hotter. It makes it stupid.” “Aww… come on, Summer.” Cole chided, stepping closer, his hand reaching out to pull at her wrist. She fought him, yanking it back and the moment of their bodies meeting didn’t happen. He leaned down and whispered, right against her ear, the smell of her apple-scented lotion enough to make him want to empty out the production trailer right that moment. “Sure it does.” She jerked back and twisted away. “If he kisses me on camera I’m going to lose it.” She shot at Don, pointing an accusatory finger in Cole’s direction. “I know you will,” Cole laughed, crossing his arms to fight from reaching out. “You’ll fall apart under my mouth, baby.” Summer screamed in response, her hands thrown up in frustration, and spun to leave, her script left behind, the slam of the exit door loud in the full production trailer. “That went well,” Cole mused. He linked his hands and rested them on his head, rolling his shoulders back. Panic. She’d had panic in her eyes. Fuck. “What do you expect?” Don said. “You threw this on her without warning. I told you we should have met with her this morning, gone over the changes to prepare her. But no – you just wanted to dump it on her via call sheets and sides.” “Dump it on her? I was People’s Sexiest Man last year. She’s not mentally adjusting to a war camp for God’s sake. How hard is it to kiss me?” “It’s actually three kisses,” a dark-haired PA to his left pointed out. “And a grope.” He gave her a hard look and she withered a little. “I’ll go talk to her,” Don said. “Eileen, you shoot #4 and I’ll talk to Summer. I want to try to get #14 shot at eleven so let’s get our asses in gear and get this done.” “I’ll talk to her.” Cole stepped in. “You shoot #4 and I’ll talk to her.” “No,” Don snapped. “With my luck you two would make up and any authenticity to the scene would disappear. Just stay away from her and be ready at eleven.” Cole chewed on his cheek, then nodded. “Fine.” Don was right. He should stay away from her. Far. Far away.

My Review

This story quenched my thirst for a good book like ice cold sweet tea on a hot Southern summer day. I was smiling the whole time I read this. It was just so freaking good! I loved the story line. Small Southern town with big secrets, Hollywood movie star coming in to make a film. You know it's going to be juicy!

Summer is just a small town southern girl who just never fit in and is looking to find a way out. The super sexy Cole Masterson is coming to town to make a movie and she sees it as a way out. She need a job and is willing to do anything.

Cole comes sulking into town after some bad Hollywood press and makes a terrible first impression on Summer. She, on the other hand, makes a fantastic impression on him. So much so, he is convinced that she is exactly what his film needs. If he can only convince her that she is a star.

What's great about Summer & Cole is that they are so snarky towards each other. The pick and pick and pick....it's hilarious! As the film progresses, so does the relationship between the two. The problem is Summer is so far from Hollywood and Cole is a mega star. Can they make it work? Can they sustain a relationship when all Hollywood wants to do is dig up their dirt?? And once the dust settles, who has the most dirt on them? You might be surprised!!

Like I said at the beginning of my review, this book made me smile from start to finish! I just enjoyed every part of it and laughed at Summer& Cole and their crazy chemistry. Super easy to read, sexy when it needed to be, and thoroughly enjoyable!

My rules:
1. Don't leave the apartment.
2. Never let anyone in.
3. Don't kill anyone.
The rules were simple and I broke them.
Now I must face the consequences.
Everyone else must face me.

A dark psychological thrill ride!

The Girl In 6E, Deanna Madden, is breaking free of her self induced lock down. Tempting fate, and her hold on the need to kill, to emerge from 6E and live life outside. Jeremy is a huge catalyst for this change. Though she knows she is not cured, she finds it easier and easier to walk among us. Going on dates, shopping around the corner. Trying to slowly get her life back.....without hacking off someones head. It's harder then she thought it would be, but Deanna is determined.

She is still camming (and there is a terrific scene between her and Jeremy regarding this) and that is where a dangerous predator awaits. Stalking her, obsessing about her, planning on making her HIS. This guy makes the last guy she killed look like Polly Anna <---creep factor just went up!
Little does he know who he is dealing with and that maybe it's him that should be very afraid. As they play a cat & mouse game Deanna & Jeremy become closer. Will Deanna be able to save not only herself, but those that she has started to love?

WOW!! Loved this book. Kick ass (literally) girl, sexy strong (and sweet) love interest, creepy evil doer AND scene stealing best friend <---- her computer expert Mike. Who I would LOVE to get his own story. For reals Alessandra!! Please write his story!!! This book had me on pins and needles till the very end. Intense and nerve wracking. I devoured it.

If you love mind games, tough heroines, twists & turns, I would highly recommend Do Not Disturb (only if you've read Girl In 6E frist)
